City of Fort Smith Flooding
Background:
The 2019 Arkansas River Flood (DR-4441) and the COVID-19 Pandemic severely impacted the City of Fort Smith. AG Witt was brought in to assist with recovery efforts.
AG Witt advised the City on the eligibility of facilities, work, and costs, documenting over $2.4 million in FEMA Public Assistance and mitigation funds, with an additional $3 million in projects pending FEMA review. A $500,000 appeal based on a complex engineering effort was prepared and is currently under FEMA regional review. Tasks included site inspections and insurance policy analysis.
Approach
AG Witt ensured that all state and federal deadlines were met, providing overall management and advice throughout the recovery process.
